Oh my goodness - so much is growing now in the garden.

Tiny decided to grow baby cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, spring onions, lettuce, brussel sprouts, peppers and chilli peppers, and of course our 'see who can grow the tallest' sunflowers.

None of this has been easy for Tiny, but he has managed to plant and care for them on his own with very little supervision.

He is disappointed that one of his two baby cucumber plants seems to have died.

This has been so important for him to do this on his own and to take control of not only what he wanted to plant, but also looking after the plants.

Did anyone else manage to encourage their children to grow some veg this year?

Please let us know how it's going.

Summer is here

Learning changes over the summer months. Get out when you can, there is so much learning out there ready and waiting for you. At the moment, I am restricted to just the garden with Tiny, but his dad is out and about with him a lot more. But summer brings different challenges.

What do you find different in the warmer months?

Do you have a less structured day? (Now that Tiny is 16, all our days are less structured)

What things do you have planned?

What new topics are you exploring?

Please let us know so we can gather more ideas.

What are you and the kids creating?

I know there are a lot of parents out there that just LOVE making crafts with the children. We would all love to see what you're making, it will give us inspiration. So please share your great work.

using the Spring Journal

If you have a teenager, you know what I mean when I say show them a book and they shut down. Now add a young man with lot's of additional needs and it can be mayhem. But, we're working through it anyway. We cut down some rhubarb this morning, and under supervision, he cleaned and chopped the stems, then laid them out on a large tray to freeze. He also re-planted some strawberries yesterday. Now he wants to add that to his journal. Now for a shopping trip to get all the other things to start to grow. How are you all doing?

How difficult is it to home educate your child

Well I don't know. You tell me. It is as easy or as difficult as you want to make it. What are your experiences of home education. I'm sure there is not person that can say. 'Oh its easy, every day is full of fun with no arguments, no fighting etc.'

Yes, it can be easy. But not every day is going to feel like that. But BOY, when it does those days are magic.

Let us know about your magic days, and your not so magic days
